A happy song for once
Today is my birthday and maybe I’m getting soft in my old age but I am feeling happier and more satisfied with life as it goes on. There’s no doubt I have a lot of dark music left in my but it’s important to express the entire range of human emotion.
I once read an interview with Trent Reznor where they asked if he was still angry and angsty and he said that he was happy with his life but has a deep well that he can draw from to write that kind of music. That’s where I am. I have a deep well of pain that I’m not sure I’ll ever fully work through but I can be happy too and that’s what I’m choosing to draw from for my latest song.
Olive Hill
The newest song is called Olive Hill. It’s a hopeful, happy song about choosing your family, creating one from scratch, and finally feeling satisfied after years of hurt, abuse, and disappointment.
State of the song
I have a basic drum track and the main guitar part the lyrics and melody are built around. I’ll be tweaking it as I go but first I’m going to add more guitar tracks, some synth flourishes, and a vocal on top.
This will be the first time I release a song with vocals and it makes me nervous. I’m not a good singer.
Anyway, that’s the latest on what I’m working on. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday recording session.
