Who is The Darph?

The Darph is a Chicago-based solo project working across alternative, experimental, electronic and pop music. Guitar-driven songs, synths, sequencers and drum machines share space with drones, noise and long-form pieces that sit somewhere between hypnotic noise and song.

Experimentation is the usual starting point, with songs often emerging through analog sound design rather than being fully written before recording. Guitar remains the foundation of much of the songwriting, while electronic instruments have taken on an equal role across the more recent catalog.

Tape, static, distortion and other forms of degraded sound have been part of The Darph long before its beginnings in 2018, carrying the artifacts of early cassette and improvised recording methods into a collection of concept-driven records.
